Why We Ride

I found a quote on the Chronicle Forums, it’s a take off of a more common sports quote that I can’t trace back to an original author.  It’s not my own and I don’t know who’s it is, but it’s too good not to share.   As we head into show season, many of us find ourselves really throwing our hearts into our sport, and really pushing to perform to the best of our abilities, despite the summer heat. We have long weeks, and then even longer weekends away at shows, always attending to our horses’ every need but sometimes forgetting our own.  And sometimes things beyond our control get in our way, or sometimes despite every effort, we still feel that we have failed.  When the pressure is on, and the goals feel lofty, tack this one inside the lid of your tack trunk:
“Somewhere behind the athlete you’ve become, and the hours of practice, the coaches who pushed you, horses who have challenged you, is the little girl who fell in love with the sport, and never looked back. Ride for her.”

  1. I was the little girl who wished for a horse every birthday, and I didn’t even know how to ride. My wishes are finally coming true! Thanks, Christy, for sharing your horse with that little girl. Also, thanks for your patience on our adventurous trail ride! Give Liam an extra cookie … he deserves it!
